Please Please Me, The Beatles first album was on 22 March 1963 in the UK after the success of hit singles released "Love Me Do" (# 17) and in particular, "Please Please Me" (# 2). In fact, the album was rushed to release, was worried by the success of two singles as the record company capital that would be the "fashion" fade away.
The Beatles had 4 songs ready for the album (The A-Sides & B-sides from the two hit singles), butrequires 10 additional titles for the standard 14th At the time, most British pop albums had 14 tracks. Amazingly, she recorded all 10 of these songs in a single day (11 February 1963.) They took the 10 songs in 9 hours and 45 minutes. She also recorded "Hold Me Tight", but it was taken from the album on the left and again for their second album "With The Beatles.
The album contains 14 songs, of which 6 and 8 of which are covers Lennon / McCartney are originals. There are the 8Lennon-McCartney originals (along with the incredible cover of "Twist & Shout"), which are interesting in my ears today and historically interesting. It was those songs that really created the idea of a "self contained" rock band. A band played and wrote all her own music. It is important to understand this context to realize how completely wrong all the "boy band" are compared. Today's "boy bands" are the exact opposite of what The Beatles represented in 1963 in the United Kingdom(and in 1964 in the USA.)
(Besides the two singles in particular, "Please Please Me", which is a pretty killer tune with some great riffs), the songs that are catching the eye:
The album's opener "I Saw Her Standing There", a pulsating really big bass of Paul McCartney on the verse features. The song has a great rock and roll drive and is one of the great early Beatles songs.
That 's album closer "Twist &Shout, "which, while it was a cover once the Beatles song with this incredible recording. It is the original version sound meaningless in comparison. Couple of times in rock history as a cover version so completely obliterated the original to the new standard for this Song. This is one of those moments.
"Do You Want To Know A Secret", which is a Lennon-McCartney original sung by George Harrison. While it is overly cute lyrically (and musically for theMatter) which also has some really good musical ideas. It shows some very early signs of creativity, The Beatles will be presented, would in the coming years.
"Anna" and "Baby It's You" are my two favorite covers on the album, in both cases due to the outstanding vocal performances by John Lennon.
Clear, Please Please Me "is not near the play of her later albums, but it is also more than just an interesting historical artifact, it is anice to hear, even though I often skip through some of the songs. For example, "A Taste of Honey" is crap.
